I have heard story after story like this. Just last week I spoke with Vanessa who is 17 years old and wants to go to college. She is looking for private scholarships since she cannot qualify for most others. She too is waiting for a reform and too scared to apply for Obama's new program for fear she will get the work permit only to be deported in 2 years because then they will have all her information. I have heard story after story of expired visas, people too scared to go back to their countries. One couple was shot at while at church and had witness testimonies to back their story up yet they did not have a police report. (It does not matter that many times the police happen to be involved) but this couple fled their country and applied for Political Asylum only to be denied. Another couple entered on a vacation visa and ended up staying, they have 4 children, two from Mexico and 2 born here. They can't go back yet here they have to live in the shadows. This couple owns two homes and pays property tax on both home esentially paying a great deal into the education accounts funded by those taxes. They have an ITIN federal tax number and that is how they bought their homes but now you cannot do that any longer but those paying rent still end up paying property taxes as well. It is a hard situation because each family has a story and each one is touching.
